The 3L80 is a fully hydraulic 3-speed automatic transmission, designed for heavy-duty military and commercial applications. It was paired with the 6.2L Detroit Diesel engine in early Humvees and is well known for its strength and reliability.
Unlike later 4L80E transmissions, the 3L80 uses purely hydraulic controls with no electronic control module, making it simpler and extremely durable in off-road and military environments.
